NHS and Private Hospitals in PL15 and throughout Cornwall

Launceston General Hospital

Link Rd, Launceston PL15 9JD, UK – 01566 761000

This is The Launceston Hospital in Cornwall UK. It's one of the best hospitals around especially for minor injuries. It has an X-ray machine where they can do most X-ray's apart from hips. Friendly staff and you don't have to wait a long time either to be seen. Best though to phone them beforehand. Saves a drive down to Derriford!

Fantastic little place they do there best

Launceston Medical Centre

Look beyond first impressions, bear in mind that this is a hive of activity do not rush to negative judgements, for lucky are the patients who fall within this practices catchment area. If you become familiar with this practice they will quickly become like family to you. At least they certainly have to me! I am a relatively new patient to this practice, but I have seen at first hand an outstanding level of commitment given to patients. This is a LARGE PRACTICE!! They care for approximately 17,700 patients (According to their website.) With this many patients it can easily appear to be a confusion of errors, rather than an organised efficient well oiled machine, which was to be fair my first impression... HOW WRONG WAS I...! They are beyond dedicated..! They care and support each other. Work cohesively together.. They really know how to share the burdens of a heavy workload. This is in your best interests also because it will lead to a clearly superior level of commitment to YOU.! For example look just how many reception staff are employed here, this combined with the latest check in technology will make check ins etc. a doddle. The waiting room is capacious well lit and with plenty of seating, a place for young children to wait apart from other patients. There are magazines and free antiseptic handgel dispensers dotted around the waiting areas and surgery in general. On any given day you will attend to see one of the many GP's, nurse practitioners or practice nurses. Or the flobotomist or a wide range of health professionals with your health care as their priority. I can vouch for a level of care that has far surpassed my expectation.

Firebrand Bar & Restaurant

5-7 Southgate St, Launceston PL15 9DP, UK – 01566 770722

Excellent! Fantastic steak and the best sweet potato fries we've ever tasted. They were able to cater for our wheelchair bound colleague and even made our dog more than welcome. So very, very good.

From the outside it doesn't look much. Disabled access is poor as you have to enter down a staircase, once inside the 'underground' dining area is cool in a retro Latino vibe with a rock/jazz soundtrack, with plenty of posters/artwork that give it a cosy, shabby chic style. The service is friendly and importantly the food is good. We had burgers and they were great. We did have a long wait for a side dish (which was of similarly good quality) but they graciously deducted it from the bill (this could be a one off problem). Overall I would be happy to go again and further explore their menu. The costs were reasonable and parking came in the form of a pay and display car lot (free after 4pm) 4 mins walk away.

Hidden Valley

Tredidon, Launceston PL15 8SJ, UK – 01566 86463

Absolutely superb. Beautiful grounds, clean and tidy. Toilets were first class. Train was lovely and free! This kind of ride is usually a couple of quid each. We all loved the Forbidden Mansion, in fact we went in it twice! Did the more difficult outside trial, which is probably why we stayed for 4 hours! Admission prices were very reasonable too. Highly recommended.

If you want a full day out for young and old alike the hidden valley doesn't disappoint. There is something for everyone and everything is included in the admission price. Superb value for £10 an adult we spent five hours here and still didn't do everything. The restaurant is well priced and the food was very nice. All staff were very friendly and if you take a picnic with you there are literally dozens of picnic spots for you to choose from! Adults make sure you do the Indiana trail as well...it's a good laugh.
